This is how your desk changed over the years

A video shows the transition from analogue to digital worldThe evolution from analogue to digital that the world has gone through in recent decades is difficult to imagine. Billboards became Pinterest, globes became Google Maps, fax machines became PDFs. Everything has now had a virtual double, whether in the form of an application, a program or a website.

The Harvard Innovation Lab team was able to illustrate all of this very clearly in their video, "The History of the Desk." In it, you can see how all the objects that were common on any desk in the 1970s disappeared over the years, ending with an empty desk in 2014.

“We wondered what it would be like to recreate the 1980 desktop and then emulate its transformation through the computer age. We wanted to illustrate how technology has changed our world, tidying up our desks and simplifying our lives. While gradual changes from year to year are difficult to perceive, a look back provides a more dramatic view of the technological progression we've experienced,” the team explained.

Some of the objects used included a classic Macintosh, a corded telephone, a fax machine, a globe, a billboard, and a Polaroid camera, among many others. According to DesignBoom, the aforementioned objects were purchased by the team through eBay, while the rest were found in basements and garage sales.
