The search for experiences has always been a major driving force of the tourism industry. Nowadays, more and more people are looking for destinations that offer healthy options such as yoga retreats, meditation or massages.
What are these experiences like?
“Yoga and travelling are my great passions,” says Julia Olcese, a member of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Argentina. Since 2015, Julia has been organizing yoga classes and retreats in various tourist destinations such as Ibiza, Formentera, José Ignacio, or Argentine Patagonia.
Why practice yoga in the middle of a trip? For Julia, getting to know a new destination, leaving the safety and comfort of home is an adventure, but it also involves challenges, such as the difficulty of “taking root” in the midst of so much change and movement. The practice of yoga can be a great ally in this sense, says Julia, as it allows for a broader perception and internal listening. At the same time, it enables a different opening towards the destination that is being explored.
Wellbeing as a driving force of movement
This is a search that arises naturally, since people on vacation are usually driven by the desire to slow down and feel better, something that is often postponed in the frenzy of the city routine. This proposes contact with nature to achieve peace and allow a disconnection from the daily hustle and bustle, making it easier for one to connect with their inner world.
It is believed that today's youth tend to be more uprooted, a phenomenon that was accentuated post-pandemic, when remote work became more important. At the same time, they tend to have a greater awareness about health and environmental care, which is why they often become recipients of this type of experience that combines well-being and nature.
