Punta del Este has a busy December agenda to get the season underway. The summer season is just around the corner. Punta del Este is warming up for what could be a historic season in terms of tourism, supported by a favorable price ratio in the region. Before the climax in January, the main resort will welcome the thousands of December tourists with an intense series of events and parties. Here are the main attractions that will kick off the 2018 season.
A mega fashion and music event will be one of the most massive proposals of the next month. On December 28, the peninsula will be shaken by the Pantene Punta del Este Fashion Show, which is expected to attract 10.000 people. It is a free outdoor show for which several streets around stop 1 of the Mansa will be closed to set up a 13x15 meter stage and a 15 meter long catwalk. On it, you will be able to see collections by top designers, parades by celebrities from both shores, several musical shows to enjoy with the family and a closing fireworks display. The bet on glamour will be reflected in the fashion production that will bear the seal of Matilda Blanco and Rosario San Juan. The conduction, meanwhile, will be in charge of Claudia Fernández and Fernando Cristino, who is also in charge of the organization of this initiative together with the Municipality of Maldonado. María Fernández, the press officer for the event, anticipates that the Pantene Punta del Este Fashion Show will seek to take the place of the great fashion show left vacant by the memorable Roberto Giordano shows.
Enjoy Punta del Este is not far behind. The opening of the season is a priority for the Mansa monster, and that is why the last days of December will be full of parties. Several of them are aimed especially at the Brazilian public that usually chooses the Uruguayan coast to spend New Year's Eve. On December 29, the Hedkandi electronic party takes place, which brings together more than 800 people in the hotel gardens. The following day, 300 Al Mare takes place, a sunset party on Ovo Beach, the emblematic beach bar of the resort.
Javier Azcurra, public relations manager for Enjoy Punta del Este, anticipates that he's also interested in kicking off the summer with a "media-led" show. In that sense, there are advanced talks to finalize a season launch featuring Argentine teen star Oriana Sabatini alongside Ovo Nightclub's resident DJ, Ale Lacroix. "We're thinking from a multi-market perspective because we have to serve Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. We analyze and measure through our customers and their tastes," he explains.
Enjoy Punta del Este will also put a lot of its money on a theatrical show. On December 16, Stravaganza will premiere in the hotel's Montecarlo Room. The proposal is unprecedented in the resort: a show on par with those in Las Vegas, for which there was an investment of more than two million dollars in the staging, and which is intended to be exhibited throughout the season. It has the artistic direction of Flavio Mendoza and the performance of two national talents such as Maxi de la Cruz and Claudia Fernández.
The Imarangatú parador at stop 7 of La Mansa is adding another party in December. The venue is completely renovated for this season and is celebrating with a first big Sunset Lovers event on Thursday 28th from 16pm. The list of guest DJs is Dutra Vila, Thiago Matthias and Álvaro Quartino.
Those who prefer sports over dancing will have their own large-scale activity to enjoy in the East. On December 2 and 3, the second edition of Eroica Punta del Este will take place, an international event consisting of a non-competitive cycling race around four circuits of the city. The Eroica Festival will also be held in the peninsula's lighthouse square, where food trucks, music bands, contests and parades of vintage bicycles will take place.
When it comes to December events, the nerve centre is on the night of December 31. Thousands of tourists choose to welcome the new year in mass celebrations and Punta del Este's offering satisfies that interest. The biggest party is the classic Box. This is in its ninth edition and last year it reached a record of 9.700 tickets sold. The huge event occupies five hectares in the El Jagüel area and for this edition it will feature a performance by the well-known Argentine DJ Meme Bouquet. It is the party chosen by the youngest, although there is a VIP area set aside that accommodates tourists up to 50 years old who enjoy the music and the striking setting of giant screens and laser lights.
There are many other options for this holiday. Those who wish to ring in the New Year on the beach can participate in La Pixel, which is designed for a larger audience than the previous party. The beach chosen for the event has not yet been determined, although DJ Otto Bunge's presence is confirmed. Meanwhile, media-savvy Argentine actress and DJ Calu Rivero will host another gigantic party: La Sensation, at the strategic location of the Beach Club (Manantiales) overlooking the ocean. This event attracted 1.300 people in its previous edition, mostly Argentinians in their 30s. The event is designed primarily for the audience on the neighboring shore; in fact, the sales points are located there. And just as Argentinian tourists have their own offerings, so do the Brazilians who flock to Punta. La Réveillon is the representative party that attracts the largest number of tourists arriving from Brazil, and this year it will be held on the peninsula. The list goes on: La Margarita at Mantra and We Celebrate are other alternatives for the young audience who opt for "cachengue" music instead of a night of electronic music.
The official opening of the activity at the spa
A wide variety of activities and shows officially cut the ribbon to kick off the Punta del Este season last Saturday, November 4th. Under the title "The World in Punta... Land of Encounters," the event took place in Plaza México, including performances by local bands such as Tribulación, Clover, Otros Gatos, and Viejo Perro. The grand finale was a great show by Márama. Mayor Antía stated that a launch of this nature was a "long-standing attraction" for tour operators.
