The airline Latam signed a cooperation agreement with Uruguayan government authorities, by which it agrees to promote tourism in Uruguay among its Pacific and Brazilian destinations. Meanwhile, Amaszonas began promoting Montevideo and Punta del Este in Bolivia. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Antonio Carámbula, reported that the airline Latam (merger of the Chilean Lan and the Brazilian Tam) signed a cooperation agreement with Uruguayan authorities on Thursday, by which it agrees to promote tourism in Uruguay among its Pacific and Brazilian destinations.
"The largest Latin American airline will carry out a joint promotion with the Ministry of Tourism in its Pacific market, which includes Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, and in Brazil, according to the EFE news agency.
The general manager of the Latam group in Uruguay, Francisco Chiari, said that the agreement coincides with the inauguration of “a daily flight from Montevideo to Rio de Janeiro, which will operate starting January 1, and the reduction of waiting times for the connection to Uruguay at the Sao Paulo airport.”
Chiari highlighted the fact that Lan and Tam, after the merger, “represent more than 50% of passengers in the region.”
In Bolivia
For its part, the airline Amaszonas began promoting Montevideo and Punta del Este in Bolivia.
Amaszonas will make its inaugural flight on December 4, while the first commercial flight from Santa Cruz to Montevideo is scheduled for December 11.
Three weekly flights (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) will connect the cities of Santa Cruz and Montevideo at the start of operations.
Amaszonas' executive vice president of commercial services, Luis Vera, said during the presentation in Montevideo of the start of operations in Uruguay that "the growing private Uruguayan investment in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and the bilateral trade relationship contributed to the airline including Montevideo in its regional flight network since December."
“Corporate and tourism travel were chosen as the main segments to develop. Sun and beach destinations such as Montevideo and Punta del Este are already being advertised in Bolivia,” he said.
For his part, Amaszonas' commercial manager, Carlos Pera, said that in all Amaszonas' stations in Bolivia "the destinations of Montevideo and Punta del Este are being promoted. The sun and beach destinations for Bolivia are very attractive."
He also indicated that the possibility of arriving to Bolivia by air today is via Argentina or Brazil, while Amaszonas will offer "practically direct flights between Montevideo and Santa Cruz."
He said that Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft with capacity for 50 passengers will be used, of which the airline is the main operator in South America.
