The first Alas Uruguay plane arrived in Montevideo

“The date we begin flying depends on the aeronautical authorities. We want it to be as soon as possible, but it depends on them,” said a member of the airline’s Board of Directors. This Wednesday afternoon, the first plane leased by Alas Uruguay arrived in Montevideo. This company was formed by former employees of the former Uruguayan flag carrier Pluna, and which the José Mujica government capitalized by granting it a US$15 million line of credit last year through the Development Fund (Fondes).

The aircraft, which landed at Carrasco Airport at around 19.30:737 p.m., was rented from an American company. It is a Boeing 300-132 with capacity for XNUMX passengers. It is estimated that Alas Uruguay (which plans to fly to Buenos Aires, Santiago, Córdoba, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and Sao Paulo) will receive its second rented aircraft in less than a month, Sabrina Acevedo, a member of the Board of Directors of the new airline, told El Observador.

Although Alas Uruguay received its first aircraft, the company does not know when it will be able to start flying, as it is still processing the corresponding permits from the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure (Dinacia).

“The date for us to start flying depends on the aeronautical authority. We want it to be as soon as possible, but it depends on them, not us,” said Acevedo. Alas Uruguay has announced its desire to begin operations between April and May.

In this regard, the head of Dinacia, Antonio Alarcón, informed El Observador yesterday that the authorization process for Alas Uruguay is in the third of the five stages of the process. The following phase, which is the most extensive, is where the company must give a demonstration of how it will develop its operations.

"That's why I'm against setting deadlines for these procedures, because there are many things that affect the certification process," said Alarcón.
