Punta del Este advances towards its certification as a quality and excellence tourist destination

  • hace 2 años

This Friday, July 27, an explanatory meeting was held towards the creation of the managing body of the Quest Tourism Destinations Program, UNWTO, Themis, a certification system that aims to promote quality and excellence, in this case in Punta del Este. The quality seal for destination tourism management organizations (DMO) was developed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in cooperation with the Themys Foundation, through the UNWTO Quest Certification System, which has a training component.

In January of last year, the municipality's Tourism Department held meetings with the UNWTO authorities in Madrid and managed to have the project implemented in the main Uruguayan resort in cooperation with the Punta del Este Convention Bureau and Destino Punta del Este.

This continued a process that began in October 2015 during the visit of the UNWTO Regional Director for the Americas, Carlos Vogeler, who presented the UNWTO Quest Program to Mayor Enrique Antía and representatives of the private sector.

During the meeting on Friday, the stage of the certification process was presented, following various meetings of tourism representatives and associations with experts from the UNWTO, and representatives of the Municipality of Maldonado and the Convention Bureau of Punta del Este.

The UNWTO Quest Certification System has a training component that helps to achieve certification standards through different programs, and to overcome identified weaknesses, with the aim of promoting the quality and excellence of DMOs.

It is a strategic tool that allows the implementation of an improvement process in order to enhance internal management and contribute to the competitiveness and sustainability of destinations, which is what Punta del Este wants to achieve with the participation of public and private actors and institutions.
