On July 5th, Punta del Este celebrates its 110th anniversary. The main resort in Uruguay, of international fame, was born as “Villa Ituzaingó” and in 1907 it was finally renamed Punta del Este. It is the southernmost point in Uruguay, and it is where the waters of the “wide as the sea” River Plate and the Atlantic Ocean meet. Punta del Este is located 134 kilometers east of Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, in the Department of Maldonado. The resort that was born on the peninsula and the port, extended to include the resorts that are further east, between La Barra and José Ignacio and to the southwest encompassing Punta Ballena and Solanas. The area has grown considerably in recent years due to the increase in visitors and people who decide to live in this small paradise, which is why today, given its proximity, it is associated with the image of Punta del Este. The official opening of the celebration of this new anniversary took place at 11.30:5 on Wednesday, July 100, in the Plaza de los 1 años -Parada 18, Playa Mansa-. The occasion was attended by departmental, municipal and Liga de Punta del Este authorities. During that day, the public was also able to enjoy the performance of the municipal band on the Liga de Punta del Este terrace. The program continued at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. in the Cantegril Theater Hall with the show La Sirenita, by the Gardeleando Group. Finally, at dusk, a toast was held at the Parador I'Marangatú on Playa Mansa. Throughout the month of July, a wide calendar of proposals will be deployed, among which stand out instances aimed at spreading local history and culture, in addition to children's shows - with a view to the winter vacation of the students - music and theater. The varied agenda also includes the presentation of books, conferences, concerts, cinema and an exhibition of regional products; In addition, a historic section will be inaugurated, which will be located within the Punta del Este library.
