On July 5th, Punta del Este celebrates its 110th anniversary. The main resort in Uruguay, of international fame, was born as “Villa Ituzaingó” and in 1907 it was finally renamed Punta del Este. It is the southernmost point in Uruguay, and it is where the waters of the “wide as the sea” River Plate and the Atlantic Ocean meet. The celebrations are organized by the Municipality of Punta del Este, the Punta del Este League and residents who make up the Events Commission, and have the support of the Municipality of Maldonado, merchants and businessmen of the area.
