Record number of private flights in the East

Punta del Este airport reached a record of 3.600 private aircraft landings in 2016. Most of the flights to Laguna del Sauce came from terminals in Argentina and Brazil. According to the Presidency, commercial operations also show encouraging figures. In the next few days, Azul will once again connect Laguna del Sauce with Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre; Aerolíneas Argentinas already does so to Córdoba and Rosario and Amaszonas to Aeroparque and Asunción, all during the summer. The airport's general manager, Juan Lescarboura, explained that these are tourists with high purchasing power who frequently arrive during the high season.

Lescarboura added that the number of commercial flights is also on the rise. In 2016, Punta del Este airport received an average of 10 to 12 commercial flights daily, which, on peak days, brought in up to 2.500 passengers.

In 2017, the terminal is expected to handle 200.000 passengers, the general manager said.
